Lukashenko pardons 30 people sentenced to prison for participating in protests
The authoritarian leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko

Belarus's authoritarian leader, Alexander Lukashenko, has pardoned 30 people, including seven women, who were serving prison terms for the protests, his office announced on Wednesday.

Lukashenko's office said that those pardoned have repented and asked for mercy from Lukashenko.

Last month, Lukashenko pardoned 30 more people convicted of participating in mass protests in 2020 against the official result of the presidential election, which gave him victory.

On July 18, 18 political prisoners were released after Lukashenko signed a mass amnesty law on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi Germany./ CNA
