Kurti is called to testify by the Special Prosecution
Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was invited to testify by the Special Prosecutor's Office, announced the spokesman of his Government, Pëparim Kryeziu.

Through an article on Facebook, Kryeziu criticized the justice system for interfering in the election process.

"In the last elections, there was a court decision, which made it impossible for [Kurt] to run in the election race on February 14, 2021, and now, through this invitation, an attempt is being made to influence the outcome of the 2025 elections," he wrote without give more details.

Radio Free Europe (REL) asked him what the case is about, but he did not answer.

The prosecutors who signed Kurt's call to testify, Valdet Gashi and Milot Krasniqi, are special prosecutors from the Department for the investigation of Corruption and Financial Crime.

REL has asked the Special Prosecutor's Office about this case, but has not received an immediate answer.

According to the invitation of the prosecutors, Kurti has been called to testify in a case for a criminal offense under Article 414 of the Criminal Code, which is about misuse of official position or authority.

Even the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, connected the invitation of the prosecutors to Kurti with the election campaign.

"Why this hurry, dear prosecutor? The campaign starts in January," Bislimi wrote on Facebook without giving details.

Parliamentary elections in Kosovo will be held on February 9 next year.

In the primary elections, in 2021, Kurti was not allowed to run for deputy, as the Constitutional Court ruled that candidates, who in the last three years had a final court decision, cannot run.

Kurti had such a punishment, because of the riots that happened in the Assembly of Kosovo while he was in the opposition.

As Prime Minister, Kurti has on several occasions criticized the justice system, saying that it is inefficient and slow./ REL
