Protest in front of the building of the Presidency of Serbia during the speech

Several hundred citizens and activists gathered in front of the Serbian Presidency building in Belgrade on December 11, during the announced speech of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in that building.

Activists of the informal student organization "Borba" announced this rally on the Instagram social network, with the message: "The President speaks about the student blockades, come before the Presidency so that our voice is heard."

Dozens of state faculties in Serbia have been locked down after attacks on students during protests related to the deadly accident at the railway station in Novi Sad.

The students who blocked four state universities - those of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac - demand, among other things, the publication of secret documentation for the reconstruction of the Railway Station in Novi Sad, where during the collapse of a roof shelter on November 1 15 people lost their lives and two others were seriously injured.

They also demand the dismissal of charges against students arrested and detained during the protests that followed the accident.

The accident happened just months after the grand opening of the station after a three-year reconstruction.

Government representatives condemn the protests and blockades.

During that time, Vucic announced in a press conference that "political demonstrations" were taking place outside.

Vucic said he intends to inform the students of "a good news".

He also emphasized that a monument to the victims will be erected at the site of the accident at the railway station in Novi Sad.

Regarding the demands of the protesting students, Vucic said that all the detained students have been "released".

"If they are punished for rioting, I will make a decision to pardon them," said Vucic.

He added that he asked the Speaker of the Assembly of Serbia, Ana Bërnabi?, to set the agenda for the change of the Government in the Assembly./ REL
