Former managers of thermal power plants in North Macedonia are arrested

On Tuesday, the police in North Macedonia took several actions to arrest some former managers of the country's main power plants.

The Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime has announced that 21 people have been arrested and that two others are being sought. They are accused of money laundering and fraud.

The accused had consciously manipulated the procedures for tenders related to public supplies, namely fuel.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 130,000 euros and some documents were found with three of the arrested.

According to local media, among those arrested is Vasko Stefanov, former director of "North Macedonian Power Plants" (ESM). The police announced that the search for Vasko Kovacevski, former director of "ESM", continues.

Those arrested are suspected of embezzling public funds in the amount of 6.5 million dollars.

Among those detained, according to local media, are the former director of the thermal power plant of Negotina, Nebojsha Stojanovic, of Manastir, Pece Matevski, and the former commercial director of ESM, Ardian Muca.

Prosecutors and the police have carried out several checks in the cities of Manastir, Negotina, Veles, Kir?ovo and in Skopje./ VOA
