"Cuba is a failed state"/ Trump: They must make a deal with Washington

US President Donald Trump has described Cuba as a "failed state" and called on official Havana to reach an agreement with the United States, although he dismissed the possibility of a US operation to overthrow the Cuban government.

"Cuba is a failed state now," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

At the same time, he further added that the US is talking to Cuba, explaining that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken over the talks.

"They should definitely make a deal. We'll see how it goes. But we and Cuba are talking. In the meantime, there's no oil, there's no money," Trump said.

Cuba is facing severe fuel shortages and power outages as the Trump administration tightens its decades-old embargo on the country and pressures other countries to stop sending oil to Havana. Referring to the fuel shortages, the US president acknowledged that they pose a humanitarian threat. /CNA
