Kim Jong Un: US nuclear arsenal poses threat to us

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has visited missile bases to inspect their readiness to take action for "strategic deterrence" as he said the United States' nuclear capabilities are a growing threat to his country, media reported. North Korean state broadcaster, KCNA.

The US strategic nuclear arsenal poses "an ever-increasing threat" to North Korea's security environment, and this requires Pyongyang to maintain a strict countermeasure posture of its nuclear forces, Kim was quoted as saying, according to KCNA.

North Korea is intensifying its ballistic missile and nuclear arsenal development, prompting international sanctions, and the country is also forging closer military ties with Russia.

Kim's visit to the military bases comes at a time of heightened tensions between his country and South Korea and its allies. This includes claims by Seoul that North Korea has deployed soldiers to Russia to fight in Ukraine, a claim denied by Pyongyang.

South Korea's national security adviser, Shin Won-sik, and Poland's national security bureau chief, Jacek Siewiera, during a meeting in Seoul, expressed their concern about military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.

The two officials agreed to close cooperation with the international community regarding this matter, the Presidential Office in South Korea announced.

According to KCNA, Kim also called for the modernization of the armed forces and for future priority to be given to strategic missiles, calling for "an important principle of strategy for building national defense."
