Germany aims to become Europe's leader in artificial intelligence

The German government hopes to create the framework for Germany to become a leader in the artificial intelligence sector in Europe, the ministers of this country have said.

Among the necessary steps is the implementation of the new European Union regulations on artificial intelligence and easier access to data for new innovative businesses, said the Minister for Digital Affairs, Volker Wissing, at the Digital Government Summit, held in Frankfurt.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has admitted that for a long time, very little has happened in Germany when it comes to artificial intelligence, and he has mentioned the possibilities that the new technology offers.

"I believe that we have fantastic opportunities, especially where computer power is at work", he said, expressing his belief that German companies can develop business models based on that technology.

Germany is praised for the academic training it offers for artificial intelligence experts, but experts believe that there is a huge deficit in the use of artificial intelligence-powered applications in the business and administration sectors.

Currently, no German company is in the group of leading companies in the world for artificial intelligence.

The Minister of Economy, Robert Habeck, said that the summit showed that Germany is on the right track.

"But the competition is tough and we have to make more efforts. We need artificial intelligence companies that can face this competition and integrate into the German economy", he said.

The United States, with players like OpenAI and Google, and China, with companies like Baidu and Alibaba, are considered world leaders in the field of artificial intelligence.

The largest European companies in this field are from France, Mistral AI and Contentsquare./ REL
