Qatar closes airspace/ Security recommendations from US, UK and China

Qatar has announced the temporary closure of its airspace to ensure the safety of its visitors and citizens, the country's foreign ministry said in a statement.

Earlier today, the United States and Britain issued advisories for their citizens in Qatar, urging them to seek safety.

The British statement did not give a reason for the advice beyond general instability due to the conflict in the Middle East, following the pattern of warnings issued by the US government to its citizens previously.

Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Qatar reminds Chinese citizens to increase security precautions.

The security warnings come as Iran and Israel have been exchanging fire for days. At dawn on Sunday, the US military carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, with Iran likely to retaliate against US targets, including US bases in the wider region./CNA
