The Italian government decided today to significantly strengthen security measures to prevent any terrorist attack.
During the meeting of the Strategic Committee against Terrorism, at the Ministry of the Interior in Rome, it was decided to strengthen security measures to protect the embassies of foreign countries, with particular emphasis on those of the United States and Israel.
In total, the so-called "sensitive targets" in Italy exceed 29 thousand of which about 1 thousand are linked to American and Israeli interests and activities. Particular emphasis is placed on the Vatican and the surrounding area, where thousands of tourists and pilgrims flock every day due to the fact that this year's Holy Year ceremonies of the Roman Catholic Church are also underway.
Italy is the only major Western country that has not been hit by terrorist attacks in recent years. According to analysts, this is largely due to the experience of Italian security services, mainly from dealing with the difficult period of terrorism./CNA
