French President Emmanuel Macron will hold an emergency security cabinet meeting today to discuss the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran following US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities early this morning, the French presidency announced.
Macron, who has discussed the conflict with several Arab leaders, including those of Saudi Arabia and Oman, will speak further with European and regional leaders later in the day, the French presidency says.
On the other hand, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot called on all parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation that could lead to the expansion of the conflict.
Minister Barron stressed that the lasting solution to this issue must come through a negotiated solution within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, an effort to which France remains ready to contribute. /CNA
