Satellite images show new craters at Fordow nuclear plant

New satellite images show the aftermath of last night's US strikes on Iran's underground nuclear enrichment facility at Fordow.

High-resolution images from Maxar Technologies taken on June 22 show six new craters - most likely entry points for US munitions - as well as grey dust and debris scattered down the mountainside caused by airstrikes.

Senior imagery analyst at McKenzie Intelligence Services, Stu Ray, told BBC Verify: "You won't see a big blast effect at the point of entry as it's not designed to explode at the point of entry, but deeper into the object."

He added that it appears as if three separate munitions were fired at two separate impact points and that the gray discoloration on the ground appears to indicate concrete debris blown up by the explosions.

Ray also said that the tunnel entrances appear to have been blocked. Since there are no visible craters or impact points near them, he suggests this may have been an Iranian attempt to “mitigate the impact of deliberate targeting of the entrances by aerial bombardment.”

It is not yet known how much damage the attacks caused to the nuclear power plant itself./ CNA
