Trump after Iran attack: Keep oil prices low

Following the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, US President Donald Trump called on everyone to keep oil prices low.

"EVERYONE, KEEP OIL PRICES LOW. I'M WATCHING! YOU'RE PLAYING INTO THE ENEMY'S HANDS. DON'T!" Trump said on the 'Truth Social' platform.

Oil is traded on a global market, and energy produced not just in the U.S. but around the world, including Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia, contributes to the prices Americans pay per barrel.

Prices have risen sharply in recent days amid escalations between the U.S. and Iran, and gasoline prices rose an average of 8 cents from a week earlier. The average price of $3.22 was still well below peak levels in 2022, when the national average was as high as $5 a gallon./CNA
