Chaos at Denver Airport/ Power outage cancels flights

A power outage at Denver International Airport (DEN) in the state of Colorado has caused chaos and forced the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to impose a flight ban for about two hours on Wednesday morning.

According to American media reports, the incident was caused by a defect in the equipment of an electrical substation of the company Xcel Energy, during the process of activating a new transformer that supplies the airport.

Airport authorities said the outage began at around 9:20 a.m. and affected hundreds of flights, causing delays and partial cancellations. More than 300 flights were delayed during the incident, while the situation gradually returned to normal after power was restored.

Witnesses inside the airport reported that passengers were not allowed to board planes and some basic services, including toilets and information systems, were affected by the power outage. /CNA
