Qatar: Iran attacked liquefied natural gas center/United Arab Emirates closes

Missile attacks from Iran have hit the main liquefied natural gas hub in Ras Laffan, Qatar, causing significant damage to energy infrastructure.

State-owned QatarEnergy confirmed that several LNG plants and the Pearl gas-to-liquids facility were affected by the attacks, causing large fires that were later brought under control. No casualties were reported.

Ras Laffan, about 80 kilometers north of Doha, is one of the most important global centers for the production and export of LNG. Qatar is the world's second-largest exporter of the fuel.

Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates, authorities temporarily shut down the Habshan gas plants and the Bab oil field after debris from captured missiles fell in the area. There were also no reports of injuries.

The attacks come amid rising tensions in the region, after Iran warned of evacuations from energy facilities in several Gulf countries. The international reaction has been immediate, with US President Donald Trump warning of severe consequences in the event of further escalation.

Qatari authorities have condemned the attack as a serious threat to national security and have demanded the removal of several Iranian officials from the country.

Experts warn that these developments could affect global gas supplies and increase prices on international markets./ CNA
