Chaos with flights in Italy, airport staff on strike

An air transport strike has been called for February 9 in Italy by airport ground staff. As a result, delayed and canceled flights are expected.

According to Avionews, the strike started at midnight and will last until 23:59, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The employees demand the improvement of the contract conditions, also considering a higher monthly salary, a one-time bonus of €500,000, recognition of seniority, a productivity incentive, the maintenance of social security agreements, as well as other benefits such as vouchers of food.

Due to the strike, Italy Airways announced the cancellation of 48 domestic flights while maintaining regular intercontinental flights.

In addition, authorized charter flights across the islands will continue, as well as military, emergency, humanitarian, medical and rescue flights.

It has also been confirmed that flights connecting to the Italian islands with only one daily frequency will be carried out, excluding continental traffic./ CNA
