Netanyahu opposes ceasefire and hostage release deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has opposed the ceasefire agreement and the release of the hostages. proposed by Hamas, calling them "impostors".

His tough stance will complicate efforts to reach an agreement between the two sides that could eventually ease a devastating conflict in Gaza and bring the Israeli hostages home.

Netanyahu vowed to continue Israel's war against Hamas, now in its fifth month, until "absolute victory" is achieved.

Hamas wanted a four-and-a-half-month pause, during which all hostages would be released and Israel would withdraw its troops from Gaza.

However, the move would leave the Palestinian militant group in power, a scenario Israel opposes.

"Giving in to the delusional demands of Hamas that we heard now will not only not lead to the release of the captives, but will simply invite another massacre," Netanyahu said at a press conference./ CNA
