Even today, trucks with Serbian goods are not allowed to enter Kosovo

No truck with goods originating from Serbia has entered the territory of Kosovo, since the Government of Kosovo made a decision to prohibit the entry of trucks with Serbian products and license plates into Kosovo two days ago.

"We have not had any entry, security measures are being implemented to prevent entry", said the spokesperson of the Kosovo Customs, Adriatik Stavileci.

On June 14, the Government of Kosovo decided to tighten border controls with Serbia.

This decision was taken after the arrest of three members of the Kosovo Police by Serbian forces.

Kosovo considers the arrest of three police officers as kidnapping by Serbian authorities on its territory. According to the Kosovo Police, the police officers were arrested in Tresave/Bare, located in the municipality of Leposaviq, within the territory of Kosovo.

On June 15, dozens of trucks with Serbian and Kosovo license plates were seen parked on the Serbian side of the border in Merdare, after they were not allowed to enter Kosovo.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said on Thursday that security institutions have tightened border controls with Serbia, in response to the situation created after the arrest of three members of the Kosovo Police by Serbian forces. Prime Minister Kurti denied that there is a ban on the entry of goods from Serbia, stressing that the measures "are not economic or commercial, but are security measures".

Serbia is one of the five countries that export the most to Kosovo.

Before the decision of the executive, in one day this country exports goods worth one million euros.

Last year alone, goods worth 372 million euros entered the local market, while Kosovo sold products worth about 62 million euros to Serbia./CNA
