Israel/ Netanyahu and opposition agree on wartime unity government

Benny Gantz an Israeli opposition politician announced that he has reached an agreement to create a unity government during the war with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Gantz, who has served as defense minister and chief of staff, issued what he said was a joint statement with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

The statement spoke of the formation of a five-member cabinet to "manage the war". It will consist of Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Gantz, current Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as two other senior officials who will serve, as the statement said, in the capacity of "observer" members.
The statement said that the government will not approve any draft law or decision that is not related to the war and as long as the fighting continues.

The announcement has created uncertainty about what is expected to happen to Mr. Netanyahu's existing government partners, a group of far-right and ultra-Orthodox parties./ VOA
