Afghanistan does not find peace/ Hit by another powerful earthquake

Another powerful earthquake shook parts of western Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, just days after an earlier quake killed more than 2,000 people and leveled entire villages.

The latest earthquake, measuring 6.3, struck about 28 kilometers from Herat, the capital of Herat province, according to the United States Geological Survey.

About 80 people were injured in this morning's earthquake, while the main highway in Herat was blocked by a landslide, Afghanistan's Ministry of Information spokesman Abdul Wahid Rayan said on Wednesday.

All 700 houses in the village of Chahak, which was not affected by the previous earthquake, collapsed on Wednesday.

No deaths were reported in Chahak, as residents have taken shelter in tents this week, fearing earthquakes will continue to hit Herat.

Taliban officials said more than 2,000 people were killed in Herat as a result of the weekend earthquake.

In the villages of this region, there is almost nothing left except for ruins and funerals after Saturday's earthquake.

In Naib Rafi, a village that had about 2,500 inhabitants, almost no one is left alive, except for men who had been working outside when the earthquake struck, according to witnesses./ REL
