Italy on the Peace Board?/ Meloni: I was invited by Trump for the first meeting

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced that she has been invited by US President Donald Trump to participate in the first meeting of the Peace Board, which is expected to be held next week.

Meloni confirmed Italy's participation in the Peace Board, which was established and chaired by Trump, but will only be as an observer. The Italian Prime Minister announced this on Saturday on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa.

"We were invited as an observer country and, in our opinion, this is a good solution to the clear issue we have regarding the constitutional compatibility of membership in the Peace Council. I think we will respond positively to this invitation to participate as an observer country. We do not yet know to what extent, because the invitation arrived yesterday ," Meloni said in a statement to journalists.

According to Meloni, after all the work Italy has done to stabilize the Middle East, an Italian and European presence is necessary.

The first official meeting of the Peace Board is expected on February 19 in Washington, with at least twenty countries participating. International media have also reported that Donald Trump will announce a multi-billion dollar reconstruction plan for Gaza during the meeting. /CNA
