Former US President Joe Biden diagnosed with cancer

Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his press office said on Sunday, and he and his family are reviewing treatment options.

Biden was seen by doctors last week after experiencing urinary symptoms and a prostate lump. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday, with cancerous cells that had spread to his bone.

"Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate lump after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with bone metastases," according to a statement from the former president's personal office.

The statement also provides details about the current stage of the disease.

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management," the statement said.

Biden is a prominent American politician who was the 46th President of the United States from 2021 to 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 47th Vice President from 2009 to 2017 under President Barack Obama and represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 2009. /CNA
