Monday's conversation with Putin/Trump: If ceasefire with Ukraine is not

US President Donald Trump said he will speak by phone with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Trump's comments come as peace talks in Istanbul on May 16 ended without any progress, and Russia again issued broad demands, including Ukraine's acceptance of neutral status, Moscow's abandonment of war reparations claims and recognition of the loss of Crimea and four occupied regions, none of which Russia fully controls.

Through an announcement, Trump highlighted the focus of the conversation expected to take place on Monday.

"The theme of the call will be stopping the 'bloodshed' that is killing, on average, more than 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers per week, and trade," Trump wrote on the 'Truth Social' platform.

Trump said he would continue his telephone communication with Ukrainian President Zelensky and then with various NATO members.

"Then I will speak with President Zelensky of Ukraine and then with various members of NATO. Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will occur and this very violent war, a war that should never have happened, will end. God bless us all!!!" Trump added.

After his trip to the Middle East, Trump told US media outlet Fox News that he believes Putin is ready to reach a deal to end the war in Ukraine, but warned that if negotiations fail, his administration will move forward with sanctions against Moscow./CNA
