The constitution of the Kosovo Assembly fails for the 16th time

The Kosovo Assembly has failed to convene in today's session for the 16th time in a row. This situation in Kosovo politics has continued since the February 9 elections.

This time too, the session began with a vote on the creation of an "ad-hoc" Commission for a secret ballot for the position of Speaker of Parliament, but most parties opposed this commission by not proposing their member for this commission.

Out of 111 MPs present in the hall, only 55 votes were in favor of forming this committee for the secret ballot of the Speaker of Parliament, one against and zero abstentions.

As reported by the media in Kosovo, after the session, the leader of the second largest party, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi said that such actions by the Vetëvendosje Movement are a hostage-taking of institutions.

"Exactly a month ago we gathered here for the first time, ready for the constitution, and here we are a month later, many months after the elections, and we are in the blockade that the first party continues to maintain," said Krasniqi.

Of the 61 votes required as a minimum, the candidate of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albulena Haxhiu, has so far received no more than 57 votes for Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, of which 48 are from the Vetëvendosje Movement and 9 from MPs coming from communities. The first constitutive session was held on April 15./CNA
