Iran proposes penalties against those who publish 'fake news'

Hard-line Iranian lawmakers have proposed a plan to impose tougher penalties on those who publish news deemed to have "negative social consequences".

According to the plan, those who publish "fake news" or "fake news" in the media will be responsible for the negative social consequences arising from them. The rules will "apply to any type of news."

Agjencia e lajmeve "Tasnim", e cila është e lidhur me Korpusin e Gardës Revolucionare Islamike (IRGC), e quajti planin kundërmasë ndaj protestave mbarëkombëtare në Iran, me synimin për të fituar më shumë kontroll mbi përdoruesit e mediave sociale.

Më 8 dhjetor, Irani kreu ekzekutimin e parë, që lidhet me protestat antiqeveritare.

Mijëra iranianë kanë protestuar në mbarë vendin që kur Mahsa Amini vdiq në shtator teksa ishte në paraburgim. Ajo po akuzohej nga autoritetet se kishte shkelur rregullat e veshjes së hixhabit, apo shamisë së kokës.

The Iranian government launched a brutal, and often deadly, crackdown on the protests. Meanwhile, the legislators have demanded harsh punishments for the demonstrators.

The current protests in Iran have become the biggest challenge to the country's leadership since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Human rights groups and Western governments have warned Tehran against handing down death sentences to protesters after fast-track trials that some have described as "false" justice./REL
