Drone attack/ Two airports in a Russian region are temporarily closed

Authorities in Russia's Tatarstan region closed two major airports for several hours on Wednesday due to a drone attack.

The airport in the region's capital, Kazan, and another in the city of Nizhnekamsk, were closed for "security reasons", Russian authorities said.

Russia's Defense Ministry said "a Ukrainian aircraft-type drone" crashed over the Tatarstan region at 7:30 a.m. local time.

Last month, drones struck an oil refinery in Tatarstan and a dormitory in the Alabuga special economic zone in Nizhnekamsk, which is home to more than 20 industrial enterprises, including mechanical engineering and metalworking factories.

It is reported that this country is also producing drones.

This region is located more than 1,200 kilometers from the border between Ukraine and Russia.

The drone strike came on the same day Russia said it had repelled a major Ukrainian offensive on the Crimean Peninsula.

The governor installed by Moscow in the occupied Ukrainian region of Crimea, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said that "a massive attack" by Ukrainian missiles on the city of Sevastopol had been repelled.

Razvozhayev said several missiles fell over the sea and in the area near the Belbek airbase.

Even earlier, this air base had been the target of attacks./ REL
