Kosovo Police confiscates arsenal of weapons in the north

Kosovo authorities have said on Tuesday that they have confiscated significant amounts of weapons in the northern part, which are suspected to have remained there, after the attack on September 24 of last year in Banjska i Zveçani.

The Director General of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, said in a media conference that the Police has obtained the information from the citizens and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA).

He, together with the Minister of the Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, announced that the raids were carried out in the vicinity of Zveçan, towards the part of Rudare.

Hoxha said that among the confiscated equipment are about 1,500 ammunition, 10 long guns, 62 stun grenades, explosives, radio links, loaded and empty magazines, and a Serbian army uniform.

The head of the Police has said that a person, a former Kosovo Police officer, has already been detained for interview, as he is suspected of being connected to the weapons, which were found near his house.

Sweden has vowed to fight what it considers a criminal group.

"It is clear who is behind this activity as well as behind other weapons depots, attacks on our officials, KFOR members, journalists and citizens. The same people of the Banjska attack, who take refuge in Serbia, are protected and glorified by [Serbian President] Aleksandar Vucic".

Since the September 24 attack in Banjské in Zveçan, the Kosovo authorities have presented several times confiscated weaponry in the northern part.

In September 2023, a Serbian armed group attacked the Kosovo Police in Banjska, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku. Three attackers were killed in the exchange of fire.

Kosovo considers the state of Serbia responsible for organizing and carrying out the attack, but Belgrade denies any such thing. The responsibility for the attack was taken by the former vice-president of the Serbian List, Millan Radoicic.

He is currently believed to be in Serbia, and an international arrest warrant has been issued against him by the International Police Organization (INTERPOL).

The international factor has requested many times that those responsible for the attack face justice./ Rel
