Belgrade court orders 30 days of detention for former KLA member

The Court in Belgrade has sentenced former KLA member and Kosovo citizen Avni Qenaj to one month in detention without a single piece of evidence, lawyer Xhevdet Smakiqi announced today.

He said that the Qenaj family, on these national holidays, is in distress and has been left without the support of the state that has fought and is being forced to fight on its own through private engagement with its lawyers to fulfill the legal rights of freedom of movement for its family member.

"Avni Qenaj's innocence will triumph, but what is the meaning of the existence of the state and the Government of Kosovo when it fails in every field. Freedom for Avni Qenaj and happy November 28 in the Belgrade cell where he is being held kidnapped in violation of international conventions," Smakiqi wrote in a Facebook post.

Avni Qenaj from Romaja, Prizren, was arrested four days ago. He was part of the 138th “Agim Ramadani” brigade in Koshare. It is suspected that he was arrested after a veteran’s membership card was found on him.
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs said on November 25 that a former KLA member, identified only by the initials AQ, had been arrested.

In recent years, several Kosovo citizens have been arrested in Serbia, whom Belgrade claims have committed war crimes.
