Police in the French capital Paris on Wednesday expelled a large number of migrants from the southern suburb of Vitry-sur-Seine, 100 days before the start of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The makeshift camp on the site of an abandoned bus company office had been home to about 450 migrants, mostly young people but including some mothers with young children.

Human rights groups said most of the migrants there had documents and were waiting to be allocated social housing.
Concerned aid organizations have expressed fears that those now being evicted in an effort to "clean up" the city ahead of the July 26 to August 11 Olympics would not be able to find long-term housing assistance once they leave.

Some groups also raised concerns that the move would adversely affect the wellbeing of school-age children. / CNA
