Apocalyptic scene from the floods in Libya, over 2,000 victims, thousands more

 

Over 2,000 people have lost their lives in the catastrophic floods in Libya and thousands more are missing. Hurricane Daniel made landfall on Sunday, prompting authorities to declare a state of extreme emergency.

Even though measures were taken, the eastern cities of Benghazi, Sousse, Derna and Al-Marj were all affected, with loss of life in addition to extensive damage.

Othman Abduljalil, the health minister, visited the worst-hit town of Derna and described it as a "ghost town".
