Festive season begins / A 27-meter fir tree is placed in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican

A 27-meter Norway spruce is ready to be placed in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican as the holiday season begins.

Raised by crane this Thursday, the fir tree stands next to the area where a Nativity scene from the Nocera region in Campania will be installed.

The tree was carefully cut and donated by the municipalities of Lagundo and Ultimo, which are also providing smaller trees to Vatican offices ahead of Christmas 2025.

This year's Nativity relies on local sites such as the Baptistery of Nocera Superiore and the Helvius Fountain, with figures shaped around daily life in the region.

The fir tree will remain in the square until January 12, 2026, continuing a tradition that began in 1982./CNA
