Kurti: The first "Made in Kosovo" ammunition will be produced at the

Kosovo's acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said that the first ammunition from the ammunition factory to be built in Gjakova will be produced at the end of 2026.

The acting government of Kosovo on November 27 approved the request for the expropriation of the properties of the former Ereniku agricultural combine, for the construction of an industrial zone in Jahoc, Gjakova, where an ammunition factory will be built.

"With this, we pave the way on the ground for the construction of an ammunition factory, the first of its kind in Kosovo, which will serve our army, increase our security and further build our defense capacities," Kurti said at the beginning of the meeting.

In November last year, the Government announced the launch of the process to open a factory for the production of ammunition and laboratories for the design of unmanned aerial vehicles, known as drones.

In December of that same year, the Government of Kosovo signed an agreement with the Turkish industrial manufacturer Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi, for the establishment of a munitions factory in Kosovo.

"The construction of this factory, for which we have a signed contract with the Turkish manufacturer MKE, will be completed within the next year. The first ammunition from this factory will be produced at the end of 2026. In addition to the ammunition factory, this industrial zone will also serve other investors with whom we are in contact and we will produce various types of military products, military and civilian drones 'Made in Kosovo' ," Kurti said.

He said that during the four-year mandate, the Kosovo Security Force, which marks its anniversary today, has been equipped with modern equipment. During this period, over 430 million euros have been spent on purchasing weapons for the KSF.

In recent years, Kosovo has increased its defense budget and recently the country has received drones, armored vehicles, and other equipment purchased from various American manufacturers.

The KSF is currently in the process of transforming into a regular army. By the end of this process, in 2028, the KSF is expected to have over 7,500 active and reservist members from over 4,000 it currently has. /REL
