Brazilian police raided the home of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday as part of an investigation into a group suspected of tampering with a government database that holds information about vaccinations against COVID-19.

Foreign media report that during the checks, the former president's phone was seized.

According to NBC News, authorities have arrested two of Bolsonaro's closest aides, Mauro Cid and Max Guilherme, during this operation.

Controls and arrests have been carried out, as there are strong suspicions that the database of those vaccinated with COVID-19 was altered and contained false data.

Authorities suspect that this was done in order to provide unvaccinated persons with vaccination certificates to travel to the United States.

Doubts started after Bolsonaro's name was found in the list of vaccinated people. The former president was one of the biggest opponents of the vaccine and had repeatedly stated that he would not do it.

During a media appearance in 2021, he claimed that the COVID-19 vaccines increased the chance of developing AIDS.
