Iran war talks: White House working to organize meeting in Pakistan this weekend

Trump administration officials are working to organize a meeting in Pakistan this weekend to discuss a way out of the Iran war, two senior administration officials told US media.

Current plans include a trip to the country by US Vice President JD Vance, and possibly other senior administration officials. But officials cautioned that the timing of the expected trip is still unconfirmed, as is the location and who might attend.

Turkey has also emerged as a possible venue for talks, as some officials raise security concerns regarding Pakistan.

Pakistan has acted as a key mediator in the ongoing diplomatic crisis between the US and Iran, presenting Iran with a 15-point plan proposed by Washington that addresses issues such as Tehran's nuclear ambitions and its ballistic missile program. Talks regarding the trip are expected to continue at the White House today.

President Donald Trump said yesterday that Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff are currently leading negotiations with Iran. /CNA
