Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has announced that the country will begin releasing some of its national oil reserves to the market starting this week, in an effort to address supply uncertainties.
In a reaction on the social network X, Takaichi announced that the process will begin on the 26th of the month, emphasizing that this measure aims to stabilize the energy market.
According to her, Japan has already used private reserves last week to ensure the necessary supply for the country.
The decision to tap state reserves comes at a time when about 95% of the oil the country uses passes through the Strait of Hormuz, a key area affected by tensions in the Middle East.
Japanese authorities emphasize that they will continue to monitor the situation and take additional measures if necessary to ensure energy security./ CNA
