Talks to extend Israel-Lebanon ceasefire

Talks are underway "to extend the ceasefire" between Israel and Lebanon, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said.

This comes ahead of the second round of talks in Washington DC on Thursday between the two countries, which are in the midst of a temporary 10-day ceasefire on April 16.

In a post on X, Aoun says that the talks being prepared are "based on a complete halt to Israeli aggression, achieving Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories, returning prisoners, deploying the army on international borders, and beginning the reconstruction of what was destroyed during this war."

Aoun says Lebanon's position on the negotiations is clear: no concessions, no bargaining, and no surrender except what achieves Lebanese sovereignty and the interests of all Lebanese.
