Britain welcomes military personnel from 30 countries for Strait of Hormuz

Military personnel from around thirty countries will be welcomed by Britain today and tomorrow, to discuss the formation of a mission led by the United Kingdom and France to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The conference will allow detailed planning for the reopening of the Strait to progress as soon as conditions permit, following progress achieved during talks in Paris last week, as highlighted by the British Ministry of Defence.

"The aim today and tomorrow is to translate the diplomatic consensus into a joint plan to guarantee freedom of navigation in the strait and to support a sustainable ceasefire," said British Defence Secretary John Healy.

Britain and France have insisted that this mission will be purely defensive and will only be deployed once a lasting peace has been established in the region./CNA
