The European Union has condemned today's attack in the city of Kerman in Iran in the strongest terms.

The EU expressed its solidarity with the Iranian people.

"This act of terror caused a shocking number of deaths and injuries among civilians. Our thoughts are now with the victims and their families. Those responsible must be held accountable for their actions," said a statement from a spokesperson for the EU's External Action Service.

In Iran, more than 100 people have lost their lives after an attack on a memorial ceremony for a Revolutionary Guard general. There were two explosions in Kerman province from "terrorist attacks" on the grave of Kassem Soleimani, the representative of the Iranian government announced on Wednesday (03.01.2024).

The death toll may rise, as there are seriously injured. This attack is the heaviest in the 45-year history of the Islamic Republic. The deputy governor of Kerman province, Rahman Xalali, spoke about a terrorist attack, but without presenting concrete evidence. / CNA
