US-Iran ceasefire/Internationalists criticize Israel's attacks on Lebanon

International reactions to the massive Israeli attacks in Lebanon that killed 182 people and injured 890 others have increased. The attacks come after a ceasefire reached between the US and Iran.

Pakistan, which condemned the attack, has maintained that Lebanon is included in the ceasefire agreement it helped broker between the US, Israel and Iran. However, the Trump administration and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have said the ceasefire does not apply to operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

French President  Emmanuel Macron condemned what he described as "indiscriminate attacks" by Israel on Lebanon, which he said posed a direct threat to the sustainability of the ceasefire.

The UAE  reaffirmed its solidarity with the Lebanese government and support for Lebanon's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The country also expressed concern about the "continued escalation" and the consequences for "regional security and stability."

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said Israel's attacks on Lebanon were deeply damaging and that Britain wants to see Lebanon included in the ceasefire. Cooper made the remarks in an interview with Times Radio on Thursday, according to Reuters.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that “the contempt for life and international law by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is intolerable .” He also called for Lebanon to join the ceasefire.

Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he called Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to express solidarity over the "unjustified and unacceptable attacks." Tajani said he called the Israeli ambassador, adding: "We want to avoid a second Gaza."

Criticism has also poured in from the United Nations and NGOs. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attacks and called for an end to hostilities, which he said posed a major threat to the ceasefire. /CNA
