German Embassy: We have not boycotted the state reception for Liberation Day

However, this embassy refused to give details on why the German ambassador in Pristina, Jorn Rohde, did not participate in the official reception.

Radio Free Europe has also sent questions to other QUINT countries' embassies, but has not yet received an answer.

This non-participation of the ambassadors of the QUINT countries in this event comes at a time when the international community is asking the Government of Kosovo to calm the situation in the north inhabited by a Serbian majority. Until now, the executive in Kosovo has not met the demands of its international partners.

There, since May 26, tensions have increased, after the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities in the north, entered the municipal buildings, under the escort of the police, despite the opposition of the local Serbs.

Since May 29, local Serbs have been continuously protesting in Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.

The USA and the European Union have presented three demands to Prime Minister Kurti: calming the situation in the north of Kosovo, holding new elections in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and returning to the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations.

On June 13, Kurti announced that he has presented to the international community a five-point plan to reduce tensions:

The rule of law in the four municipalities in the north, which means the identification, prosecution and fair trial of all members of the criminal groups that have attacked the Police, NATO troops and journalists.

Violent groups should be immediately withdrawn from the territory of Kosovo and any criminal act against the institutions of Kosovo should be prohibited.

Kosovo Police, members of NATO and EULEX to carry out joint security assessments, to guarantee a safe and risk-free environment for everyone.

The Government of Kosovo should coordinate with all actors and announce early elections in the four municipalities in the north.

Kosovo and Serbia to return to the dialogue mediated by Brussels, and a high-level meeting to be held this week.

Even the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has expressed her openness to holding elections in the north. However, in order to announce the new elections, she said that 20 percent of the people on the voting list in the north of Kosovo must sign a petition with the request that the votes be held./ REL
