Slovakia reaches agreements with neighboring countries on airspace protection

Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary will join forces to protect Slovakia's airspace.

The Defense Ministers of these countries on June 12 reached an agreement on this issue, the Slovak news agency, TASR, reported.

These four countries are part of the Visegrad Group, which is an informal political and cultural group within the European Union and NATO.

Since September of last year, Slovakia no longer has fighter jets. This country suspended the operation of the air fleet because the MiG-29 aircraft, which Bratislava had, were being maintained by "hostile" Russian technicians, REL reports.

All 13 of Slovakia's MiG-29s were transferred to Ukraine, despite opposition from Russia, which launched an unprovoked invasion of its neighbor in February last year.
