Bloody Russian missile attack on the city of Kryvyi Rih

As a result of a Russian missile attack on Kryvyi Rih, a city in the central part of Ukraine, at least 10 people were killed and 25 others were injured. The news was announced on Tuesday by the Governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region Serhiy Lysak, who said that Russia destroyed a five-story residential building.

Kryvyi Rih is the birthplace of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a post on the 'Telegram' network, Mr. Zelenskyy wrote: Russian killers continue to attack residential buildings, cities and ordinary people. Terrorists will never be forgiven and they will be held accountable for every missile they launch."

The attack on Kryvyi Rih was part of a wider Russian airstrike, which also targeted the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, as well as the city of Kharkiv.

Ukraine's military announced it had shot down 10 of 14 self-guided missiles launched by Russia, as well as one of four Iranian-made drones being used by Russian forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that its forces had captured several German Leopard tanks as well as US Bradley fighting vehicles in southern Ukraine. Russia called them 'trophies' and said it had found them in the Zaporizhia area, after the departure of Ukrainian troops.

Ukraine announced on Monday that since the launch of the counter-offensive last week, it had succeeded in liberating seven villages.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed confidence on Monday that Ukraine will "continue to be successful in its efforts to regain control of territory occupied by Russia."

Mr. Blinken told reporters that the United States would "continue to increase support in the short and long term to help Ukraine stop future Russian occupation of territories."

Mr. Blinken also said that President Putin has marked a strategic failure in relation to the objective he himself declared regarding Ukraine. He said that Mr. Putin intended to erase Ukraine from the map, eliminate it and in one way or another include it within Russia, an objective which has failed, as he said./ VOA
