2020 election interference charges/ Georgia prosecutor drops indictment against Trump

A Georgia prosecutor has dropped the indictment against President Donald Trump for interfering in the 2020 election.

Pete Skandalakis filed a motion to dismiss the case that originally accused President Trump and others of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The state charges were the last remaining criminal case against the US president stemming from the 2020 election.

The charge was originally filed by District Attorney Fanni Willis, but she was removed from the case by the state supreme court after a personal scandal.

Pete Skandalakis, executive director of the nonpartisan Georgia Council of Prosecutors agency, appointed himself to review the case after Willis' disqualification and when other state prosecutors declined to take the case. /CNA
