1.5 million euros import per day, Kosovo in energy crisis without entering

The Kosovar Energy Distribution Company has shown that within one day the import of electricity has reached the value of 1.5 million euros.

From this company they asked to save the cost of electricity. It has not yet entered winter, but with the decrease in temperatures, the consumption of electricity in Kosovo has increased.

Thus, the electricity supply situation has worsened due to high consumption. The Kosovar Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) has announced that with the decrease in temperatures, the demand for electricity consumption has also increased.

This energy, says KESCO, is being used for heating. According to the announcement of this company, the first days of November show an increase in demand by about 18% compared to the same period last year.

"When we have not yet entered winter, the demand has gone up to over 1,100 megawatts per hour at peak times. However, consumers should keep in mind that Kosovo has tariffs that encourage the saving of electricity. So, the less they spend, the less they pay not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of price", says KESCO in the announcement.

The company further clarifies that the tariffs are divided into two main blocks in terms of consumption: up to 800 kwh and over 800 kwh. Meanwhile, he says that the prices are significantly higher for spending over 800 kwh. Therefore, it says that consumers should take this into account and save electricity as much as possible. KESCO requests that electric heating be avoided in those living spaces where this is possible.

"But, where it is not possible, among the methods of saving is the use of efficient equipment, as well as the use of heating in an efficient manner, not creating very high temperatures", said this company.

The Kosovar Electricity Supply Company recalls that during the energy crisis, many European countries had limited the internal temperature not to be above 19°C during the winter.

"This temperature is calculated to provide sufficient heat for humans during the winter. Also, only the spaces where you stay should be heated and not those where you are not. Insulation of living spaces is another important step that saves electricity used for heating".

However, a few days ago, the Energy Distribution Company announced that within one day, the import of electricity has increased to over 1.5 million euros.

"Currently, the consumption of electricity is over 930 megawatts per hour, while recently one megawatt per hour of electricity has been paid up to over 700 euros, add here also the cross-border capacity which, compared to a previous period, was 10, 20 to 30 euros has recently been raised up to 400 euros. According to these parameters, during today's day alone, the import of electricity will be somewhere over 1.5 million euros".

This company has shown that there may be energy reductions in the event that they cannot be supplied sufficiently by the energy producer, which in this case is the Kosovo Energy Corporation.

The thermal power plants "Kosova A" and "Kosova B", located in the city of Obiliq, are the main sources of electricity by burning coal, although they do not meet the needs of the state, mainly due to their age.

Kosovo's electricity needs exceed production capacities, especially during winter.

Kosovo has the capacity to produce about 800 megawatts per hour, while its needs, on winter days, reach up to 1,300 megawatts per hour. This difference, she usually imports from abroad./ Monitor magazine
