In 2022, real wages in 9 regions of the country decreased

The pressures on the labor market and especially the labor force did not have an effect on the change of real wages in most regions of the country last year.

According to the official data of INSTAT, the average gross monthly salary last year increased by 8.2 percent, while the average annual inflation by 2022 was 6.7 percent, making the real national salary in the country to have increased by only 1.5 percent. .

More detailed data show that out of 12 regions of the country, in 9 of them salaries have increased less than inflation, affecting that the real salary in the vast majority of the country has decreased compared to 2021.

The biggest decrease was present in the Kukës District, where the average monthly gross wages increased by only 2.7% percent, while inflation was 6.7%, the real wages in this district decreased by 4% last year.

This decline comes at a time when the northeastern region has the highest level of poverty in the country and the only economic decline in the period 2013-2021.

The regions of Elbasan, Fier, Dibra, Korça, Shkodra, Gjirokastra, Vlora, Lezha and Berat also have the lowest real wages.

Only the districts of Durrës and Tirana recorded a real increase in wages higher than the national average by 11 and 9 percent, respectively.
