The project for the transformation of the entrance of Shkodra and the western shore of the lake already has a signed contract for implementation.

The Albanian Development Fund announced in the system of the Public Procurement Agency that these days a contract was signed with the winning company for a value of 399 million ALL or about 3.8 million euros without VAT.

The scope of the contract envisages "Urban transformation in main public spaces - Phase II: Intervention at the Entrance of Shkodra and Requalification of the Western Shore of Lake Shkodra (Phase-I)" while the winner is the company ALB TIEFBAU" sh.p.k.

But what does the project that will be implemented in the future and that has ADF as the contracting authority foresee?

According to the technical report, it is underlined that the project aims to reactivate this social and economic pole of Shkodra, taking advantage of the natural conditions of the country and connecting and promoting the three main strategic activities: Recreation (locals), Tourism (visitors) and Economy (business).

"The project has six main objectives:

1. Creation of an ecological neural zone that connects the relationship between the lake and the city;

2. Creation of Shkodra's largest public park equipped with recreational and sports facilities;

3. Creation of a network of pedestrian and bicycle routes connecting nature, monuments and scenic routes.;

4. Creating an iconic meeting point for public events;

5. Creation of a new museum that presents the history of the area by expanding the cultural and touristic network of Shkodra;

6. The reconstruction of the port of Shkodra for the expansion of the tourist pole with a river network along the water" says the document.

The same classifies four strategic areas of Buna Park that will be subject to changes.

LAGOON PARK

Lagoon Park is a special area located in the north of the area. This strategic area protects the Shkodra lake wetland by allowing it to flood in the rainy seasons.

At the same time, the Lagoon Park offers recreational functions for citizens in accordance with the flooding of the area, such as walking and resting areas overlooking the wetlands and sports facilities.

Lagunesa Park has great strategic importance for Shkodra, because it is a pilot project adapted to the climate in Albania that regulates floods. This green neutral area can also become a model for the sustainable development of the city in contact with the lake of Shkodra.

RECREATION PARK

The recreational park is the area located between the Buna coast and the access road to Shkodër. This strategic area minimizes private construction and maximizes public areas to create a real sense of a public park.

The public park has a recreational character for use by citizens, achieved by combining green areas planted with abundant vegetation with public recreational areas such as rest areas, children's playgrounds, sports areas and picnic areas.

WATERFRONT

The waterfront is the area located along the Buna River. It is a very important strategic area that will be transformed into an iconic tourist attraction and promote the image of Shkodra as a modern cultural capital with a rich history.

It is also a meeting point for citizens and a place for celebrating events equipped with several public facilities such as a museum, an outdoor auditorium, a harbor and rest areas with a view of the water.

ACCESS TO ROZAFA FORT

The castle of Rozafa seems to be located far from the river due to the change in elevation, the long winding road and the lack of visibility to find the entrance to it.

In reality, the castle is located only 500 meters from Buna Park and in the past was directly connected to the old bazaar and the port by a pedestrian path.

This footpath is not used today, but still exists. Rehabilitating this road and making it accessible will allow visitors to reach Rozafa Castle in 10 minutes walking from the pedestrian bridge over the Buna River.

This new pedestrian link will conceptually connect the castle, the park and the city, making it more accessible to tourists and locals./ Monitor Magazine
