17 families from the Vora area are on the streets and without shelter after the municipality that demolished their buildings because they were damaged by the earthquake of November 26, 2019, has not yet started the new building as promised, but has also stopped their rent bonus.

The show Stop on TV Klan traveled to the village of Marqinet 1 in Vora, not far from Tirana.

The two buildings where 17 families lived were completely damaged and the residents ended up in tents and vans, until they were treated with a rent bonus. But the bonus was stopped and for 5 years they have not clarified what will be done with them.

Residents themselves show the problems related to the case.

"I have lived in the palace here for 41 years. The moment the earthquake hit, we were damaged, the houses became uninhabitable. We lived in a tent, from a tent to a van, from a van then a struggle to find a house to rent. We have not been given a rental bonus for 1 year or so. There were 2 palaces here. We are 17 families who are in the open sky".

"I have changed four houses so far. I got a bonus for one year, they cut me off".

"The municipality removed the buildings with the promise that it will build another building. We don't know when they will start."

"I have been to Vora Municipality 6-7 times. They are not looking at us".

"We have met the mayor, he says when the fund will be released. We don't know when the fund will come out."

"We ask that they make us our home, let us in."

The journalist of "Stop" addresses the Municipality of Vora for the reconstruction and the bonus, but the municipality is barricaded for journalists.

After many attempts, the mayor appoints a specialist to talk about the case. Specialist Besjana Subashi says that the municipality has written a letter about this case to the Ministry of the Line, since 2022, but since then there has been no response. According to her, there are no funds and the bonus has been stopped by the Government, since this year it was passed to the Municipalities.

"The rental bonus for all citizens has been stopped because they can no longer afford it and it passes the competence of the Municipality of Vorë. The Municipality of Vorë is under review, but the budget is not sufficient to meet all the housing needs of all citizens with the rent bonus. Now let's follow the procedure as provided by the normative act to house them in order to build the buildings in Marqinet", said the specialist.

But while the Municipality of Vorës is waiting for an answer from the Albanian Development Fund and the Ministry of the line, 17 families stay on the street and without rent bonus./ tv klan
