Wiretaps, Veliaj orders Arbri to pressure the KLP: Tell "friends MPs"

Mayor Erion Veliaj orders that pressure be exerted on justice institutions from his prison cell in Durrës.

In this case, against the High Prosecutorial Council. This is confirmed by the wiretaps obtained by CNA, which clearly show that Veliaj calls the KLP's reaction abnormal.

As shown in the materials provided by CNA, Veliaj considers the KLP's reaction unacceptable, as they were elected with a majority in parliament.

For this, according to wiretaps, he engages his brother Arbër Veliaj to talk to his "deputy friends" to deal with this matter.

"The intensification of the media campaign as the date of the security measure trial at the Court of Appeal approaches in order to put pressure on justice officials. Likewise, another moment to highlight is the conversation about the KLP in relation to the statement in defense of the actions of the Special Prosecutor's Office.

For the citizen under investigation, Erion Veliaj, this is unacceptable and abnormal, as long as they were voted into Parliament by the government majority.

For this reason, he asks citizen Arbër Veliaj to talk to 'friends MPs who deal with this matter,'" the intercepts obtained by CNA state.

It is also noted that Veliaj has published a request addressed to the High Prosecutorial Council to ascertain the end of the mandate of prosecutor Ols Dado and that his approach to institutions creates premises for him to intervene in them and use them to further his goals.

In the intercepts obtained by CNA, Veliaj asks his brother, Arbër Veliaj, to engage the KLP deputies to deal with this matter because he does not know for what reason the KLP is making statements in defense of the prosecutors.

"At 19:54, Erion Veliaj talks to Arbri regarding the statements made public by the KLP. Erion tells Arbri that he is very surprised by the KLP's statement, since they have not even reacted to Saliu's case. He tells him that most of them were not put in place by Saliu, 'by the way'. He asks Arbri to talk to 'friends MPs', those MPs who deal with this work, since the KLP was voted into Parliament by the majority of the government, their statement is abnormal.

"He tells him again that the KLP's statement is abnormal, I don't know for what reason they made it, at a time when they didn't speak out about Saliu. At the end of the communication, he tells him to come early to the meeting, to give him the ballot, implying the next status," the materials obtained by CNA state.

We recall that earlier the High Prosecutorial Council broke its silence after CNA's interest in a reaction to the continuous attacks by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Mayor Erion Veliaj against Prosecutor Ols Dado and Judge Erion Bani.

The KLP condemned the attacks and pressure against SPAK prosecutors and in particular against prosecutor Ols Dado.

The KLP calls for any claim, accusation or complaint against a prosecutor to be handled in accordance with the law and within the institutional framework.

“The High Prosecutorial Council (KLP) expresses concern about the ongoing campaign of attacks, derogatory labels and attempts to pressure SPAK prosecutors in general and the prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Olsi Dado, in particular. Statements articulated not only by certain media segments, but also by persons involved in investigations or accused by them, including high-ranking officials, damage the integrity and trust in Albanian justice. Verbal attacks violate the fair investigative and judicial process, as a fundamental guarantee of the rule of law.

The KLP calls for any allegation, accusation or complaint against a prosecutor to be handled in accordance with the law and within the institutional framework. The KLP reiterates the importance of respecting ethical standards of reporting by the media, ensuring impartiality in informing the public opinion, in order to avoid any form of disinformation that may affect the integrity of judicial processes. In respect of an independent judicial system, we call for patience and prudence. Any attempt to influence through public pressure or political debate undermines the principles of democracy.

"The High Prosecutorial Council stands in support of Prosecutor Olsi Dado and all prosecutors of the Republic of Albania, so that they exercise their function in accordance with the law, as the only guarantee that justice functions on the basis of facts, evidence and due legal process," the KLP's response states./ CNA
