CNA is bringing more details that highlight the corrupt scheme of the Erion Veliaj-Ajola Xoxa couple.

While SPAK has communicated the charges to Veliaj and his associates, other details emerge from the file that reveal how Veliaj signed funds for his wife's NGOs.

One such case is recounted by the former director of TKOB, Abigeila Voshtina.

Here's what she declares.

Former director Abigeila Voshtina, in her statements to prosecutors, explained that she only met twice with the mayor, Erion Veliaj.

The first time was for financial assistance to cover the November 2022 artistic events calendar for which TKOB did not have funds.

In her statements, she indicated that Veliaj suggested using an NGO through which the municipality could financially support the project.

So, the scheme seems to be this: public money would leave the municipality and end up in the pockets of the mayor's wife.

Asked about her relationship with citizen Ajola Xoxa, she stated that in July 2022, she met at a pastry shop opposite the Sky Tower, where they discussed the dates of the International Dance Festival, but not the budget. She admits that she has once been to Ajola's offices on the 10th floor of the Sky Tower, but does not remember the reason for the visit.

Regarding the organization of the festival, Voshtina admits that she has held meetings with Ajola Xoxa and Tim Newman, which often took place in her office at TKOB where citizens Ketrina Braho and Ada Gura were also present. She confirms that she immediately connects the “Harabel” center with Ajola Xoxa and that it was the organization that financed the project.

Regarding a lease agreement with the company "Rametal" sh.pk, Voshtina was familiarized with the document on 20.09.2023, which she had signed herself.

She explained that the contract was drafted at the request of Ajola Xoxa, who had selected the operator and determined the amount.

She stated that she had no contact with representatives of "Rametal" and did not participate in the negotiations.

According to her, Ajola had initiated all financial and technical discussions in collaboration with Tim Newman and an economist involved from "Harabel" itself.

The fight with Ajola Xoxa

The declarant recalls a meeting at the Ministry of Culture with Ajola Xoxë and Tim Newman and the general secretary Zerina Bruci, where the budget for the shows "Sonoma" and "Gravirty" was discussed.

Ajola Xoxa had requested that an amount of 240 thousand euros be managed by the "Harabel" center, which the declarant explains that she did not agree with, since, according to her, public funds should be managed by the theater and not by an external organization. According to her, this also led to the breakdown of the relationship between her and Ajola.

She further states that there were difficulties with time and the procedures had to be carried out during the month of August, a period in which the theater's administrative staff was reduced. Due to the pressure and influence that Ajola Xoxa exerted through the name of her husband, Erion Veliaj, she states that she felt forced to sign documents, although they were not in accordance with the law. The theater did not have the capacity to carry out all the procurements, so the procedure for lighting remained the only one that was carried out by the institution itself.

The declarant further states that regarding the tickets and invitations, she had reserved three rows for personalities according to protocol, but Ajola had taken over their distribution. At one point, the tickets were distributed without her knowledge by Ajola and her staff, and because of this, there was a clash with Ajola Xoxa.

The declarant had requested that the value of the tickets be in accordance with the income that should have been deposited in the State Treasury. According to her, Ketrina Braho later brought the amount obtained from the tickets, which was deposited in the treasury.

As we see these statements, what is consequently understood is that Erion Veliaj has taken great care to ensure that the funds, even when given to other institutions, end up in the pockets of his wife, Ajola Xoxa./ CNA
