People will rise against people and kingdom against kingdom; there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various countries. But all these will be only the beginning of the birth pains" (Matthew 24:7-9).

But what warns us that nuclear weapons will be used in this war, which will destroy large urban areas, is again the prophecy that Jesus said: "That the last days will be like the days of Lot, who lived in wicked Sodom ” (Luke 17:28-30).

Lot was the grandson of Abraham (about 2000 years before Christ). Tempted by greed for wealth, he settled in the Jordan Valley, where two city-states, Sodom and Gomorrah, were located.

The places of Sodom and Gomorrah are mentioned as the southeastern tip of Canaan, located east of Gaza, while this area was known as the eastern coast, according to the Bible, Jerusalem bordered Sodom on the southern and southeastern side. The inhabitants of Sodom were called Philistines or Hanakites in Hebrew.

The inhabitants of these two cities had undergone a deep moral degeneration, to perversions unheard of before. There was no longer any moral barrier, from children to the elderly. Perhaps for the symbolic punishment of this generation, which is becoming more and more like the time of Lot, it is not necessary for God to send fire and brimstone from heaven, as happened in Sodom and Gomorrah, because this fire has already been created and accumulated by the very people with nuclear weapons.
