Iosif Vissarionovich Dzugasvili, known as Stalin, the leader of the USSR from 1924 to 1953, went down in history as one of the most fearsome and bloody dictators of the 20th century.

It is not surprising, therefore, that throughout its existence it has been the target of countless conspiracies aimed at its elimination.

However, thanks to the capillary, sometimes paranoid control over personal safety, the clumsy plans and the bad luck of the attackers, he always managed to escape death, so much so that he seemed like an untouchable man.

In case of Stalin's premature death, a political earthquake would have been created not only in the USSR, but also internationally. The men closest to him, including Beria, Malenkov and Molotov, could have sparked a bitter power struggle, with the risk of plunging the country into civil war.

Stalin's death in the early 1930s could have represented the dawn of a new era, with a less authoritarian regime, without the great purges and a more gradual collectivization of the agricultural sector.

Moreover, the cult of personality would have disappeared. This is the optimistic version.

USSR resized. The international situation is more complex, from a "counterfactual history" perspective, the de-Stalinized USSR could have played a different role in the world conflict, perhaps less decisive, thus changing the post-war period.

If the USSR had been attacked by Germany in 1941 and then sided with the Allied forces, would relations with the US and UK have been less strained without Stalin? Would there then have been less conflict between the East and West of the world? Would the ideological divisions that led to the Cold War have been avoided? Maybe.../ Adapted from CNA
